Virginia prioritizes guaranteed access to advanced math. To boost consistency, opportunity and algebra readiness, the state could require K-8 screeners, administered three times a year, and at least 60 minutes of daily math instruction in grades K-5.

To become proficient in math, students need to develop mathematical proficiency which is a combination of real-world problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and productive dispositions.
