Mississippi supports math achievement with a state-approved screener and list of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). To increase impact, the state could require K-8 screeners three times a year and mandate district adoption of HQIM.

To become proficient in math, students need to develop mathematical proficiency which is a combination of real-world problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and productive dispositions.
